This small Taptic engine gives a light tick under your thumb as you scroll the clickwheel, so you can feel each step as you move through menus, songs and playlists.

Compatible with:

iPod Video 5th / 5.5 Gen

iPod Classic 6th / 7th Gen

How it fits: The slim module sits inside the back plate (rear cover) and connects with a short red and black two-wire lead. It's designed for a flash-modded iPod, fitting neatly alongside a microSD adapter and a thin 3000mAh battery, even with a thin back plate.

Important: There isn't room for the Taptic engine alongside the original hard drive, so it only fits an iPod that has been converted to flash storage (such as our iFurb Dual microSD adapter).

Please note: The Taptic engine is wired in place of the iPod's built-in clicker (the small speaker on the headphone jack board that makes the clicking sound). Once it's fitted, the original click sound is gone and you feel each scroll instead of hearing it.

Mini fitting guide (DIY):

Open your iPod carefully with an opening tool and disconnect the battery before doing anything else.

Find the clicker on the headphone jack board. It's soldered directly to two pads on the board.

Desolder and remove the clicker, then solder the Taptic engine's leads to those pads: red wire to the top pad (positive) and black wire to the bottom pad (negative).

Stick the module flat inside the back plate where it won't press on the battery or storage adapter, and route the wires so they won't get pinched.

Reconnect the battery, test that you feel the tick when scrolling, then close the iPod.

Fitting: This involves fine soldering inside your iPod, so it suits experienced modders.
